CORDAID RDC

CORDAID IN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO Cordaid has been active in DR Congo since the 1970s, and has built up an extensive network of partner organizations. Cordaid wants the people of DR Congo to once again be able to contribute to the development of their country’s basic facilities and work towards peace, safety and justice. Our work in five different yet related sectors helps achieve this: Health care Cordaid makes health care more accessible and improves the quality of care in 24 out 26 provinces. Our Results-Based Financing (RBF) approach, enables patients to have a say in the way they are treated and safeguards quality of and access to health care services in DR Congo. Since 2012, Cordaid has been the Principal Recipient of the Global Fund for HIV/AIDS in the DR Congo. By 2020, we commit to reduce 80% of new infections in the general population and targeted populations, to enroll 95% of tuberculosis and HIV co-infected patients on antiretroviral drugs. Child & Education Cordaid uses RBF to improve the Congolese education system. RBF helps to achieve increased quantity (more children in school) and higher quality (improved learning outcomes and relevance). Lobby & Advocacy Cordaid aims to restore the social contract and the trust between government and citizens in a fragile context. We do this by promoting legitimate regulations and policies that respond to peoples’ aspirations. With local civil society partners, we advocate for local security and access to justice for all, engendered peace, equitable mining governance and adequate health coverage. We support police and justice sector reforms, including community participation in the management of local security issues and the formalisation of informal mechanisms of access to justice. We also promote women’s participation in the decision-making and peace processes, in line with UNSC Resolution 1325. Security & Justice Cordaid’s aim is to contribute to a stable and peaceful DR Congo. We set up legal clinics to strengthen community knowledge on the functioning of judicial, security and administrative institutions. Women Leadership Cordaid gives girls and women a voice in a context where it is not usual for women to speak up for themselves. It boosts their confidence and allows them to plan their future, find work and gain independence. Humanitarian Aid To people affected by natural or man-made disasters, we provide cash (for rent, repair of houses, food, medicines, clothes…), short term livelihood inputs, emergency kits to cover first needs, non-food items, protection, hygiene kits and clean drinking water. We also support conflict-affected IDPs and host communities. And we help to eradicate epidemics like Ebola and Cholera, to save lives and strengthen communities.
